The Ministry of Education and Culture of the Autonomous Community has rejected the appeal filed by the president of MC Cartagena, Jesús Giménez, against the March 2019 resolution of the Directorate General for Cultural Property (DGBC) that dismisses the start of the procedure for the declaration as a Property of Cultural Interest (BIC) of Asian coffee from Cartagena.
The origin of this initiative is in September 2018, when MC Cartagena sent a request to the DGBC of the CARM for this body to initiate the declaration procedure as an Intangible Cultural Interest Property in favor of the Asian Cartagenero .
The Cartagena education gave continuity to the work carried out for the protection and recognition of the heritage and identity of the Comarca del Campo de Cartagena.
The request for the declaration as BIC of the Asian is based on its undoubted importance in the culture of Cartagena and its Region, being in the collective ideology, until it exists as a claim and trademark.
All for its unique character;
the uniqueness of its recipe, exclusive to Cartagena and its Region, its exclusive glass (created in the Glass Factory of Cartagena) and its antiquity (early 20th century).
Subsequently, on March 5 of this year, the DGBC dismissed the request of MC for the declaration as BIC of the Asian considering that "does not meet the values that article 3 of Law 4/2007, of March 16, of Heritage Cultural of the Autonomous Community points out as outstanding ", which motivated the appeal presented by Jesús Giménez on behalf of the Cartagena formation.
Due to this news, the president of MC, Jesús Giménez, has stated that "as expected, the regional government has denied the declaration of Cultural Interest of the Asian Cartagenero", denounced the regional administration that "his chest blows and interest imposed by the history and heritage of Cartagena is diluted as a sugar when something concrete needs to be done, even if it is a favorable resolution. "
The cartagenerista leader has explained that the resolution of the Ministry of Education and Culture does not discuss "that the Asian is part of our cultural heritage; that it is the only case in the Region, and perhaps in Spain, in which a vessel is manufactured only for that coffee and in this area; that combines the seafaring tradition with that of glass work in Santa Lucia; that it was popularized by the Pedrín bar in El Albujón, or that it is a unique and attractive gastronomic product ".
For all this, he concluded by stating that "after knowing the file, the conclusion is that the Asian is not declared BIC because it is 'cartagenero'. Therefore, we do not rule out that one day they sell it to us as one of the cultural singularities of the kitchen Murcia. We are used to these grievances. "
