Ten professors from three countries meet today and tomorrow at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) to specify what the 15 underwater vehicles that 50 Professional Training students should look like and will exhibit next April in Toulon, a port city located in The Mediterranean coast of southern France.
This initiative is part of the European project BLUE TEmPLATE - BLUE TEch PArTnership Education whose objective is blue growth.
Each of the vehicles must solve a challenge aimed at smart, sustainable and inclusive growth.
Thus, for example, they will have to design and build one made of recycled material, another that is capable of collecting underwater water samples or some with 3D vision capability, says Francisco López Castejón, of the UPCT Ecosystem Research Group .
This European project is allowing dozens of students to participate in exchanges in various educational centers and companies to develop a marine program, aimed at blue growth.
Students analyze, among other issues, marine logistics, transportation, mechanics, electronics or the environment.
Blue growth is a long-term strategy to support the sustainable growth of the marine and maritime sectors.
It recognizes the importance of the seas and oceans as engines of the European economy because of its great potential for innovation and growth.
The European project BLUE TEmPLATE - BLUE TEch PArTnership Education, in which UPCT participates, aims to promote the acquisition of skills and competences in the field of marine engineering and technologies, environmental concerns and marine logistics, creating a network International students, teachers and companies to promote the development and exchange of innovative training methods and know-how.
According to information provided by the European Commission, the blue economy represents 5.4 million jobs and a gross added value of almost 500,000 million euros a year.
But more growth is still possible in some areas, outlined in the Strategy.
BLUE TEmPLATE - BLUE TEch PArTnership Education (2017-1-IT02-KA201-036878) is an ERASMUS + project of Strategic Partnerships for School Education.
Participants will perform a break from 11:20 to 12:20.
They are gathered in the CRAI Library, located on the ground floor of the School of Telecommunications Engineering.
