The City Council of Cartagena has fulfilled this weekend with its secular promise to make an offering to the Four Saints and the Virgin of Rosell every year, in thanksgiving for their miraculous intervention during the well-known Santa Catalina Borrasca on November 24 of 1694
The threat that the rain, the wind and the waves devastated a large part of the population of Cartagena, dissipated, according to the chronicles of the time, when its terrified inhabitants entrusted their destiny to San Isidoro, Santa Florentina, San Leandro and San Fulgencio, and therefore the patron saint, the Virgin of Rosell.
The so-called votive function of Santa Catalina took place in the course of the celebration of the Eucharist that in honor of the Virgin of Rosell took place in the Church of Santa María de Gracia, and officiated by the vicar general of the diocese of Cartagen, Juan Tudela .
The person in charge of making the offering on behalf of the Corporation was the second deputy mayor, Manuel Padín.
On behalf of the City Council of Cartagena, there was also the Councilor for Heritage and Recruitment María Amoraga, the mayor of the Jesús Giménez Corporation, María Dolores Ruiz, Arancha Pérez, Gonzalo Abad and María del Pilar García.
On Friday, November 8, in the Church of Santa María de Gracia, the Eucharist was held in honor of the Virgen del Rosell.
After the mass, a procession was carried out in the center of Cartagena.
The event was attended by the Cartagena people who, despite the cold, took to the streets of the city center to honor what is considered the first mother of Cartagena.
