The Cartagena Jazz Festival and the photovoltaic energy company Soltec carried out this Saturday, November 9, in collaboration with Anse, Association of Naturalists of the Southeast, a reforestation on Mount Roldán, which contributed so much to repopulate Carthage cypress in this area of great landscape value, as to compensate for the carbon footprint caused by the festival organized by the City of Cartagena and that these days celebrates its 39th edition.
Soltec has organized this environmental volunteer action within the 39th edition of the Cartagena Jazz Festival, as it did with the La Mar de Música festival, carrying out a reforestation of the area of Monte Roldán, in Cartagena.
The activity in which members of the volunteer team of the company participated is framed in its corporate social responsibility policy and has aimed to repopulate the mentioned mountain of Cartagena cypress.
With this, in addition, it has contributed to offset the carbon footprint that these days the Cartagena Jazz Festival produces in its 39th edition.
The action took place this Saturday, November 9, at 11:30 am and is part of the LIFE-Tetraclinis-EUROPA project, with which we want to contribute to guarantee the conservation status and long-term sustainability of priority habitats of cypresses, increasing the area of the forest to reduce the impact of tree trekking, a protected and endangered species exclusive to the Sierra de Cartagena at European level.
The action has been organized together with Anse, an organization that carries out defense campaigns in natural areas, projects for the protection of endangered wild species and control of the contaminating effects on fauna and flora.
Monte Roldán, due to its proximity to the city of Cartagena and its attractive landscape, is very popular for hiking, cycling, mountain races and all kinds of recreational activities.
This intense use of space causes impacts on the environment such as erosion of the land and loss of vegetation.
The ascent to Monte Roldán, in the Natural Space of the Sierra de La Muela, Cabo Tiñoso and Roldán, offers, at 490 meters above sea level, stunning views of the Cartagena coastline.
During the tour you can enjoy a natural environment of high ecological value and visit at its summit the battery of Roldán, declared a Site of Cultural Interest.
