The new technologies are put at the service of archeology in the Barrio del Foro Romano through a virtual reality APP, which recreates 3D Roman buildings giving them their old life.
The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, recalled that the "Roman Forum is one of the main archaeological sites of Cartagena for its historical relevance and for being in the Historic Center of the city, so it was necessary to turn it into something alive, modern and attractive to tourists. "
With this reason, a new APP has been launched that will allow us to understand the configuration and how was the daily life of each space of the Roman Forum in a visual and didactic way.
Through a series of explanatory videos of the hill of the Windlass and the buildings of the site, visitors can "attend as banquets in the Atrium Building, bathe in the cold room of the hot springs or participate in the rituals that they were performed at the Sanctuary of Isis, "explained the mayor.
"Without a doubt, an application to immerse yourself in the old Carthago Nova."
This application can be visualized through the rental of tablets and used throughout the course of the site.
It is a service designed for both individual tourists and guided groups and is available in 7 languages: Spanish, English, German, French, Portuguese, Russian and Greek.
It has audio and texts, which allow this service to be accessible to visitors with auditory and visual needs.
It will be put into operation in two phases.
Ana Belén Castejón explained that "the first one is ready, showing the remains that are currently open to the public, that is, the thermal baths of the port, the Atrium Building and the Sanctuary of Isis, while the second phase, will start when the future Roman Forum Museum opens to the public. "
The company that has developed this APP has been Moptil.
Its founder Michalis Kokkinos, has pointed out that his company has been working on the great archaeological remains of Greece for years such as Acropolis, Delos, Olympia or Delphi.
This company has an agreement with some tour operators, such as the TUI wholesaler with whom Cartagena Puerto de Culturas has been working on cruise ship excursions for years.
Kokkinos stressed that "work has been done with great care and care to bring cultural heritage to new generations."
This new service in the Barrio del Foro Romano will start operating from this week.
Any visitor or group can rent a tablet for 5 euros to make their tour from Saturday, November 16.
This Tuesday and Wednesday a fam trip will be held to publicize this application among the tourist agents and clients of the consortium as well as the virtual reality glasses implanted in the Roman Theater Museum since last year.
To this inspection visit, under the name of âNew technologies at the service of archeologyâ, about 40 companies, hotels, tourist guides and other interested parties have confirmed their attendance.
Also from Cartagena Puerto de Culturas, guided tours will be launched on Saturdays and Sundays in November, December and during Christmas, at 12:00 noon.
The purchase of these guided tours will be made through the website www.cartagenapuertodeculturas.com or in person at our museums and sites.
