In 2014, the regional government presented the Integrated Territorial Investment (ITI) of the Mar Menor, an investment set for the 2014-20 period and that represented a project for the recovery of the lagoon valued at about 170 million euros with financing, for the most part, of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Agricultural Fund for Regional Development (EAFRD).
The ITI of the Mar Menor was proposed in two phases: the environmental recovery of the lagoon, and its value to take advantage of its potential and end other problems such as the seasonality of tourism or the absence of infrastructure.
After much of the period of time planned for the development of this program and it is sad evidence that the Mar Menor agonizes, the Councilor of MC Cartagena, María José Soler, has denounced that "the lack of transparency of the regional government coincides with turbidity of the Mar Menor ".
This statement is based on the fact that "our municipal Group has, since August, claiming to know, through the CARM transparency body, the degree of execution of the actions provided for in the ITI of the Mar Menor".
This request was repeated last October.
Soler added that "we are very afraid that this lack of transparency hides the intention of hiding by the regional government that they have not done their homework and have not made the investments provided for in this initiative."
In this regard, the mayor has shown that "we can affirm, without margin of error, that the ITI has resulted in a new failure of the regional government. It should be remembered that among its main objectives were the improvement of water quality, reducing pollution by discharges into the Mar Menor, as well as the maintenance of natural heritage and protected areas. Unfortunately, the green soup in which the Mar Menor and dead fish have become are very representative images of the resounding failure of the Murcia government. "
Deepening the lack of transparency of the regional government, the Cartagena councilor recalled that "in the document that defined the ITI they committed themselves to disseminate the actions through the Mar Menor Channel and to carry out an accounting of accounts through of the Transparency and Open Government Portal. However, today, despite being a project that has been going on for more than four years, we still don't know what amounts of money have been invested or what projects. "
María José Soler has also denounced the lack of planning by the Murcian Executive when finding "the flight forward that they seem to have taken in a hurry call for studies of all kinds before the end of the year. But, yes, transparency or trail".
Finally, Soler has said that "the citizens already said very loudly, last 30 in the streets of Cartagena, that the time for the lies of the PP in regard to our Mar Menor is over, and that is its inaction , incapacity and arrogance has ended up passing the bill they deserve, at least at the polls, while we wait for other responsibilities that have also been made creditors. Perhaps even Teodoro García is left wanting to make jokes in bad taste after the result of next Sunday ... "
