As every year, the Department of Equality continues with the commitment to the promotion of educational programs that encourage Gender Equality and the Prevention of Violence, carrying out workshops scheduled for this new 2019/2020 school year.
The programs, which are already underway since September, offer all schools in the municipality the possibility of requesting workshops and activities aimed at Infant, Primary, Secondary and Baccalaureate Education.
All of them have been presented this Thursday, November 7, at the City Hall by the hand of the Councilor for Equality, David Martínez, accompanied by the area coordinator, María José Mercader.
These activities will be carried out during school hours and at the facilities of each center, always adapted to the age and profile of the participating groups, all of them being taught by professionals specialized in Equal Opportunities.
For Infant Education games and toys that trigger egalitarian and non-violent behaviors will be promoted through the workshop 'Non-sexist and non-violent toys', making a call to parents, mothers and toy stores from the Department' so that through toys Let us also educate in Equality, â€explained the councilor,“ you have to start from the earliest childhood â€.
The 'For a non-sexist toy' campaign will reflect on sexist behaviors in the elections that adults, boys and girls make in terms of games and toys that promote inequalities.
'Equals' is a coeducational intervention of equal values ​​in the form of a workshop for the Infant Education courses of 4 and 5 years, based on equality, tolerance, respect and freedom.
While, 'Resolving conflicts' will aim to teach how to live and manage emotions for the peaceful resolution of disagreements since childhood through play.
The workshop 'The witches, precursors of women scientists' will seek to make visible women scientists, who have mostly been made invisible throughout history, so that students understand what they have contributed to humanity and serve as references and models to girls thus increasing confidence in themselves and their abilities.
In 'Equality and co-responsibility', we will work to reflect on domestic tasks among family members, breaking social stereotypes based on gender inequalities.
The diversity workshop 'Cajón flamenco' aims to break stereotypes and cultural stigmas by making visible the different cultural identities and their confluences through music, in this case, through the flamenco cajón.
Finally, the workshop 'What music do we listen to?'
It will seek to teach children to detect sexist and violent content in current pop music and foster emotional relationships among the most egalitarian preteen.
In Secondary Education and Baccalaureate, the Equality Agency continues to offer workshops that revolve around two axes: 'Education in equality values' and 'Prevention of gender violence through the campaign IF YOU FEEL DROWNED IS NOT LOVE'.
Last year, the Educational Programs of the Department of Equality reached more than 40 schools, and almost 7,000 students and students from Cartagena with excellent results.
