THE DIABETES IN THE REGION OF MURCIA AND IN CARTAGENA

The prevalence of Diabetes does not stop increasing in the world of the hand of obesity and sedentary lifestyle, causing chronic health problems that, in the long term, are even more relevant than Diabetes itself.

It should be noted that there are two types of Diabetes.

Type 1 affects the younger population and is due to the fact that the pancreas does not produce insulin, so it requires the daily administration of this hormone.

Type 2 is the most frequent, affecting 90-95% of diagnosed cases and is characterized by insufficient insulin production or inadequate use of insulin.

The most frequent complications are usually hypoglycemia (blood glucose levels are below normal levels) and hypoglycemia (blood glucose levels are too high).

Up to 70% of Type 2 Diabetes can be prevented or delayed, adopting healthy lifestyles.

According to the IDF, it is estimated that by 2040, Diabetes will exceed 600 million affected.

In Spain, the prevalence is almost 14%, of which 6% are undiagnosed, which means more than 5 million and a half people have this chronic disease.

In the Region of Murcia, almost 200,000 people have Diabetes, being undiagnosed about 85,000 people (6%).

In Cartagena, 30,000 people are those with Diabetes, of which 13,000 are unaware.

The president of SODICAR, María Dolores García, has affirmed that "in the year 2040, the International IDF Diabetes Federation foresees that more than 600 million people suffer from Diabetes in the world, therefore, with a healthy life, based on food balanced and in sport, it can be delayed or prevented.
