A tide of more than 55,000 people, according to data from the National Police, flooded the center of Cartagena last afternoon on October 30 joining their cries for the same cause: The poor state of the Mar Menor.
Under the motto 'SOS Mar Menor' the first of the banners came out at 6 pm in the afternoon from the Alameda de San Antón at the height of the Cartagonova bridge, where various groups began to be concentrated to which more were incorporated protesters until their arrival at the Regional Assembly.
It was at this point, coinciding with the arrival of the first groups at 8:00 pm, where a manifesto was opened that the writer María Dueñas opened, together with the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Cartagena (Favcac), with the support of the Association from Naturalistas del Sureste (Anse), Ecologists in Action, the Fishermen's Association of San Pedro del Pinatar and the Pacto por el Mar Menor platform, all organizers of the trek.
With buses from all over the Region and the Region of Cartagena with their groups and associations, they put face and voice to the critical situation that the lagoon currently lives with the presence of even whole families, from the oldest to the smallest.
The City Council launched a special device in which they offered the necessary services with traffic control by Local Police in this large mass event, which passed without incident since its inception.
"It was a cry for all of us to make decisions and transform the voice of society into immediate actions," said Deputy Mayor Noelia Arroyo, taking stock of this great event by the Mar Menor.
"The first thing is that they do not continue to spill through the Rambla del Albujón," Arroyo continues, according to the indications of the scientists, and for this he asks for the collaboration of the different administrations and coordination from the Segura Hydrographic Confederation (CHS) by the national government.
