The Popular University of Cartagena of the Department of Culture of the City Council of Cartagena inaugurated on Thursday afternoon, October 25, the 2019/20 Course with an event held in the Ceremony Hall of the City Hall.

The opening of the course was chaired by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, accompanied on this occasion by the director of the Popular University, José Macián, having as guest of honor the writer María Dueñas.

The councilors of Culture, David Martínez, the councilor delegated of this area, Carlos Piñana, the general director of Strategic Projects of Historical-Artistic and Cultural Heritage, Damián Pérez, the director of Culture, Chenchi Plazas, the head of Libraries, Mari Carmen Rodal, and the mayor of the municipal corporation José López, Arantxa Pérez and Gonzalo Abad.

The act began with the intervention of the mayor, who highlighted the ideals that Antonio Oliver and Carmen Conde valued when they created the Popular University of Cartagena.

He also highlighted Ana Belén Castejón, the growth of the Popular University both in its public offer and in the approach to neighborhoods and councils, remembering that it is an institution with great roots in the city that maintains the purposes for which it was created.

The director of the Popular University, meanwhile, detailed the different training areas currently taught at this institution, which reaches 95 courses and 1,600 places, of which are still available.

In addition, he highlighted the creation of the Virtual Campus, which has been established to improve the service and the student / teacher relationship.

The opening speech was given by María Dueñas, who overcame her problem of aphonia and spoke in detail about the literary connection, mainly of great women who somehow had to do with the Popular University.

Finally, he related hidden details of his different novels.

When the mayor concluded the event, the new course was inaugurated.
