The Local Police of Cartagena has filed five complaints for distractions at the wheel during the campaign held from September 16 to 22.
Eighty percent of them have been for carrying the mobile driving.
It is the result that is extracted after the control of more than 900 vehicles in the municipality of Cartagena during that week of September.
According to the General Directorate of Traffic, the use of the mobile behind the wheel increases the possibility of a traffic accident up to four times.
In 2018, distractions at the wheel were the main cause of accidents with 32 percent of cases, ahead of speed and alcohol.
The current legislation contemplates as a serious infraction “driving using mobile phone devices, browsers or any other communication system, as well as using radar or kineometer detection mechanisms”.
Article 65.4 section g of Royal Legislative Decree 339/1990, of March 2, which approves the articulated text of the Law on Traffic, Traffic of Motor Vehicles and Road Safety.
This would entail a fine of 200 euros.
