APICES Cartagena claims that the language on mental health is not frivolized and taken care of (23/10/2019)

This Wednesday, October 23, the Association APICES Mental Health Cartagena has held an informative day on the importance of words in communication, mainly in the media, about mental health and people with mental health problems.

The day began at around 10 am and has taken place in the Assembly Hall of the UNED Cartagena, with the welcome ceremony by the Councilor for Social Services of the City of Cartagena, Mercedes Garcia, the president of the Association APICES Cartagena Mental Health, Miguel Nieto and the director of UNED Cartagena, María Luisa Martínez.

The act was attended by the councilors of the municipal corporation, Arantxa Pérez and María José Soler.

The Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García, explained that this day serves to "raise awareness in the media about the treatment that must be given to people with mental health."

In addition, he said that it is necessary that "they are treated as persons with obligations and rights and above all, the right to dignity, since when these people value themselves and have a greater awareness of their own dignity, we will achieve full integration ".

This activity has also served to make an official presentation of the new Style Guide on Mental Health for the media, prepared by the National Confederation of Mental Health Spain.

In addition, a discussion table has been held, in which users, mental health or journalism professionals, among others, have explained their point of view on the subject treated from the approach that gives their position.

The Style Guide on Mental Health for the media has been presented by the APICES Communication Manager, Ginés Orcajada.

On the other hand, the discussion table was attended by: Javier Conesa, representative of the First Person Committee of the Mental Health Federation of the Region of Murcia, Víctor Vera, Social worker at APICES Cartagena Mental Health, Javier Lozano, responsible for Leisure and Free Time at APICES Cartagena Mental Health, Pedro Julio de Zafra, Communication Director of FFRM and David Buendía, volunteer in the social field, responsible for training courses for health personnel at the Sta. María del Rossel and Saint Lucia Hospital on “ Humanizing communication ".

The day has been closed by the director of APICES Cartagena, María José Hernández.
