The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has requested this morning the president of the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura, Mario Urrea, during the meeting held at the CHS to inform the mayors of the plans of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, a greater presence of inspectors to guarantee zero discharge to the Mar Menor.
Castejón recalled that all administrations must work in this direction, because it is the only way to get the Mar Menor to recover.
"From the City Council we are willing to do our homework, but we can only do it if the Autonomous Community and the Government of Spain do theirs," said the mayor.
In the same vein, he has requested that the number of inspectors be expanded to ensure maximum control over the area.
Regarding the Mar Menor, the mayor recalled that she is a supporter of the urban moratorium.
“The time has come to think about what we want to be when we grow up and I have it clear, I want a municipality where nature is respected,” he explained.
Ana Belén Castejón thanked Mario Urrea for holding this meeting with all the mayors, who has considered a success, since not only the current situation has been analyzed but also all the information on the projects that, if they obtain the approval of the Ministry, they would be carried out in the Region of Cartagena.
The Confederation has announced that the mapping of flood areas will be reviewed.
"It is a great success, but they should do it as quickly as possible because it is vital to know how to act and under what regulatory framework," said Castejón.
In the short term, the mayor has asked the CHS president for greater coordination among technicians to ensure the proper development of the conservation and cleaning work on the waterfront in the municipality.
"We need the greatest possible coordination with the Confederation and with the Autonomous Community to ensure that everything is in perfect condition, as it should be."
