The reading clubs of the Municipal Libraries of Cartagena, represented by a group of 42 people, participated on Tuesday, October 15, in Oviedo, in a meeting with the author Siri Hustvedt, last awarded with the Princess of Asturias Award for Letters.
Under the title "genuine curiosity", around 2,000 people belonging to different clubs of autonomous communities in Spain, participated in this meeting, led by the journalist Inés Martín Rodrigo, who reviewed the award-winning career through questions that had previously been sent by club members.
In addition to the issues raised by the journalist to the author, four questions were selected to be asked live by those attending the event.
One of those questions was asked by a member of a Cartagena reading club who, in addition to congratulating the author on her work, highlighted the 14 hours of bus that the Tertullians had traveled to meet her and hear her live.
With applause and gestures Siri Husstvedt showed how excited he felt at this comment and such a warm welcome.
Siri Hustvedt was recognized by the jury of the Prizes because "his work is one of the most ambitious of the current landscape of the lyrics. It affects some of the aspects that draw a convulsive and disconcerting present, from a feminist root perspective."
Cartagena currently has 27 reading clubs spread across all the municipal libraries of the Cartagena City Council.
These clubs have an average of 20 people per club or literary gathering that usually meet once a month to comment on the book they have read: The clubs do not stop growing and are open to all those who want to participate.
