The Department of Equality of the City Council of Cartagena has launched, for the second year in a row, the "I Am Feminist" Equal Man campaign, aimed especially at men in order to promote their involvement in real equality between men and women.

For this, posters have been printed, which will be taken to educational centers to complement the work that is done there every day, as well as to Associations of Neighbors, Libraries and other centers of the municipality, and mupis, highlighting in the campaign motto the Feminism word to which, as pointed out by the mayor of the Area of ​​Equality, David Martinez, during the presentation of it this Thursday, we must take away the pejorative sense.

'We have tried to see men and women of different ages reflected in this campaign and that when they see it, it is considered whether they are feminist or not and why, we use the concept of feminism because we believe it is necessary to raise public awareness of the importance of being a feminist, of seeking equal rights between men and women, 'said the mayor.

David Martínez also stressed that the date of the campaign is not random, since it was in October 2006 when Nobel laureate José Saramago made the first call for men to demonstrate for equality.

Since then, every year, on October 21, a demonstration is convened that arises from the citizens themselves, with the support of the administrations.

In this sense, the Councilor for Equality said that 'from the City Council we want to join all the actions aimed at laying the foundations of an egalitarian society.
