"Neighborhoods for the climate: A collective tool in the face of the climatic emergency" is presented this Thursday, October 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Casino of San Antón, by the hand of Cristina Contreras Jiménez and Carmen Gutiérrez Martínez, creators of the project #Barriosporelclima de Córdoba, invited by Cartagena Piensa.
Thus, they will explain how this project works, taking advantage to practice some of its most significant tools.
Prior to 7:00 p.m., a mapping or diagnostic walk will be made in the neighborhood to observe and discover what to do to improve or enhance the adaptation of streets, squares and homes to climate change and how to help curb it.
Barrios por el Clima is an initiative developed in Córdoba since 2018, but part of a previous one, Valdeolleros Moves due to the weather, which began in mid-2016.
This is the Climate Change project: everyone's task, which is part of No Planet B (https://es.noplanetb.net/) (CSO-LA / 2017 / 388-137), funded under the DEAR program, whose purpose is to inform the citizens of the European Union about the concept of development, mobilize greater public support in the fight against poverty, provide citizens with tools to adopt a critical spirit regarding global development models, encourage new ideas and change individual attitudes in that line.
Barrios por el Clima aims to bring relevant information in relation to climate change to the public, demand measures to curb the emissions of gases that cause the greenhouse effect (and, therefore, climate change).
And finally, in view of the fact that climate change has already begun and one part is irreversible, implement adaptation measures in the different neighborhoods: woodland plantation, replacement of impervious surfaces with permeable surfaces and grasslands, installation of shadows natural (pergolas, etc.) and artificial (awnings, etc.), claim of adaptation measures for the thermal insulation of homes.
The general motto of the project can be summed up in «Let's plant the trees that will give us shade in 20 years».
With these movements, participatory processes are being revitalized in eight neighborhoods, in which it is the neighborhood who decides what should be done to stop them and proceed to adapt to climate change.
Currently, a network of neighborhoods has been formed, to which others are joining, and networks are being strengthened to act in the face of the climatic emergency.
It is developed by neighbors and neighbors and other groups present in different neighborhoods or in the city in general, neighborhood associations, AMPAs, women's, youth, cultural associations, etc.
and it is energized by Ecologists in Action of Córdoba.
