On the occasion of the improvement of its infrastructures, the Road Education Park of the City Council of Cartagena reopens its doors after the works that have been carried out since last September, which aimed to make its facilities accessible and eliminate barriers architectural features that hinder mobility.
The mayor Ana Belén Castejón and the councilor of Public Road and Security, Juan Pedro Torralba, have attended on the morning of today, October 15, the opening of the school year in the park with the assistance of students of San Juan Bosco School of Salesians
“All the actions that have been carried out are intended to make life easier for both children who come to the park and their families.
Making sure that anyone, regardless of their motor skills can make use of these facilities with all safety guarantees, ”said the mayor.
The works have consisted of the elimination of stairs, lowering curbs, improvement of access to the toilets of the park, installation of parking for people with disabilities in Angel Bruna Street and a bus stop has also been created in Ribera Street from San Javier for school transport.
This action has been completed with the total repainting of the horizontal signs and the replacement of the vertical ones, as well as the repair of the benches and other damages of the urban furniture of the park.
During the 2018/19 school year, more than 2,500 schoolchildren visited the Municipal Road Safety Park, where road education activities have been developed since 2001 and which is managed by the School of Public Safety (ESPAC).
This project depends on the Department of Public Road, directed by Juan Pedro Torralba, and is framed within the actions that have been carried out in various areas of the city, neighborhoods and districts, especially on the sidewalks to allow people with disabilities and according to the universal accessibility ordinance approved by the city council on March 2018.
