An educational center at the foot of Monte Sacro in which school children learn from neighbors and vice versa is the central idea of the project with which the degree in Architecture has concluded the student of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) Marta Muoz.
The student is committed to a new educational model as a lever to revitalize the “urban void” of Monte Sacro, in the historic center of Cartagena and next to the Rectorate and the future residence of the UPCT.
"It is a historical place, which must be given importance so that future generations know their history," explains the architect.
“Public equipment would be a focus of attraction for the entire city, which now shuns this area, would be in contact with the UPCT campus training network, generating interconnected activities,” he adds passionately, since he argues that “design for your city ties you emotionally, it's like it's for your family. ”
The project of this student from Cartagena also includes a pedestrian itinerary along the regenerated Monte Sacro and recovers the traces of the old neighborhood respecting the visibility of the hill.
External educational agents and opening of the educational center during non-school hours for use by neighbors is the method that the student defines as “intergenerational and intercultural” and that she proposes so that schoolchildren “get involved in the nearby community,” Marta Muoz argues. , who remembers that “the historic center is, next to La Aljorra, the neighborhood with the greatest needs for school places in the municipality”
“The future is children, who must learn to be free, and education is a fundamental pillar for society that needs to be constantly changing, for which a profound review of our current education system is required,” he considers the newly titled .
