The Music Unit of the Tercio de Levante de la Armada, in collaboration with the City Council of Cartagena, will offer a concert on the occasion of the National Party in the Town Hall Square, today Friday, October 11 at 8:00 p.m., after the Solemn Arriate of Flag.
This year the concert will have a special section dedicated to the “Commemoration of the Battle of Lepanto”, and will include a musical repertoire with pieces from the three Armies.
The program will begin with the interpretation of the pasodoble “El Alabardero” military figure who escorts the kings in the Royal Palace.
A very characteristic piece composed by Guillermo Ruano.
Two well-known military marches will follow: "Pilots in flight", by Modesto Rebollo, dedicated to the Army of the Air, and "The Generals," written by Jos Power, and dedicated to the Army of Earth.
They will be succeeded by a zarzuela fantasy, a musical genre where the theme and military characters have always been very present.
In this case, the chosen work is "The Farmer of Arles", by the teacher Ernesto Rosillo, which includes a musical appointment to the popular La Madeleine.
The concert will continue with a musical review commemorating the Battle of Lepanto on October 7, 1571, in which the Catholic fleet, led by Juan de Austria defeated the Turkish.
Therefore, the music unit will interpret the military march "Don Juan de Austria" and later the military suite nº1 "Lepanto" by Francisco Grau, which will include the voice of a rapporteur who will narrate the battle's deed.
The official program will conclude with a polka with two trumpets and a band.
This is the piece "Rolipops" that contains the joy and folklore typical of Spanish music and character.
The Music Unit of the Third of the Marine Corps, based in Cartagena, is made up of 34 musicians, all of them noncommissioned officers and troop personnel, led by officer Jaime Enguidanos.
