Francisco Jiménez says that the accusations of the deputy Joaquín Segado in relation to the opening of a CATE and the vice president of the regional government on a supposed social emergency can only respond to the most absolute ignorance or political use of this humanitarian drama
Francisco Jiménez attributes the institutional and political harassment suffered by the Delegation of the Government by the municipality of Cartagena and the regional government to a profound lack of knowledge in the management and action protocols, using a strategy of repeated and studied accusations regarding the arrival of immigrants to our shores in recent days.
The Government delegate deeply regrets the political use of a humanitarian drama such as immigration and considers the disloyalty of the two administrations in this matter to be unjustifiable.
"I can only attribute these manifestations to their most absolute ignorance or to a partisan use of a State policy, whose measures and actions transcend our borders, with the sole purpose of agitating the political scene and creating instability in this era of pre-election campaign," Jimenez said.
The delegate of the Government assures that the vice mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, lies when he affirms that the CIE of Sangonera La Verde is closed.
"It is false that it is closed. It is at full capacity, and there and other CIEs in Spain we are deriving immigrants as places are released when executing expulsion orders," said Jiménez, who says that next year will be undertaken a major reform and expansion of its facilities to improve attention to immigrants, an issue that has not been undertaken by previous governments despite considerably higher numbers of immigrants arriving
The Government delegate reiterates, against Arroyo's statements, that the Government Delegation has not ignored the offer of help from the Cartagena City Council.
"Simply, for those first 72 hours, the city council cannot provide any welcome assistance, because, during that time, immigrants can only be in police custody and, subsequently, those who do not enter the CIE, are referred to NGOs of the National Reception System, exclusive competence of the Ministry of Interior and of Labor, Migration and Social Security, "says Jiménez.
The Government delegate insists that if the city council really wants to help what it has to do is show due loyalty, let the hundreds of state professionals who personally and professionally sacrifice themselves every day work to save these people on the high seas and attend them with the greatest possible dignity and wait for your help to be requested.
"In the meetings held with the mayor of Cartagena it was very clear that we would ask for your help, the only one that can be provided in those first 72 hours, when it was necessary to enable a pavilion before an exceptional and continuous avalanche, as happened two years ago, and which fortunately has not occurred on this occasion. We have been absolutely transparent from the beginning and we have kept ourselves out of controversy, but when you find that, repeatedly, there is an interested and unfair use of this matter, we are forced to deny certain accusations already defend the institution and the Government of Spain, "adds Jimenez.
Temporary Immigration Assistance Center
According to Jiménez, the possible construction of a CATE, Center for Temporary Assistance to Immigrants, and the imposing rejection expressed by the PP spokesman in the Assembly, Joaquín Segado, is the most obvious example of the political use of this drama.
"It cannot be that an idea launched in March 2018 by the then Government delegate, Francisco Bernabé, of the Popular Party, was extraordinary, and that now that we ask for it, because it is necessary, they accuse us of fostering the effect called and damage the tourist image of Cartagena, but, above all, it cannot be that these accusations are launched by the same person who, in October 2018, being president of the Port Authority, studied with my predecessor Diego Conesa, on the map of the Port Authority , the possible location of that CATE, "says Jiménez, who says that this facility will not be a CIE, nor will it damage the tourist image of the city, as it does not do in Malaga, Motril, Algeciras or Cádiz, and will allow to attend with the maximum dignity to immigrants in those first hours of mandatory police custody.
"We do not understand how they can oppose, both the town hall and the popular parliamentarians, to an idea that they already proposed and that seeks, precisely, to end the supposed alerts or social, health and security emergencies that in their opinion originate the current infrastructure for attend to people fleeing a humanitarian drama and remember that they are not criminals. In addition, it is a facility that will significantly improve the working conditions of the National Police and Red Cross "
Finally, the Government delegate regrets the background, and fundamentally the tone, of the statements of the regional vice president, Isabel Franco, in which she accuses him of giving up duties and favoring the effect called.
"I am very surprised and disappointed by the statements of Isabel Franco in which she accuses me of leaving duties. I do not accuse her of anything or intrude on the situation of her reception centers. This is everyone's responsibility and the real one The abandonment of duties is to accuse others of not assuming your own obligations and responsibilities. We are not delaying anything because never before, in much worse situations, the social emergency to which she refers to immigration cases has been declared in the Region of Murcia We are working tirelessly to address a very complex issue that cannot and should not be used and publicly aired, "concludes Jiménez.
During this year 18,591 immigrants have arrived in Spain by sea, only 4.53% through the Region of Murcia, where 844 people have landed to date illegally, figures very similar or even lower than those of 2018, when they arrived in total 1,672, or 2017, the year in which they did 2,084.
