Municipal technicians and the State Coastal Demarcation are visiting this Tuesday, October 8, the beaches of the Cartagena coast to know the works that are urgently needed to solve the damage caused by the DANA that devastated the Region last month of September.
The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has attended this morning the Inter-Administrative Coordination Forum of the Mar Menor, where she has requested that the cleaning work be maintained in a sustained way since contributions continue to arrive at the Mar Menor from Ramblas, such as El Albujón and has demanded from CARM greater involvement in the application of Law 1/2018 on Urgent Measures to guarantee the sustainability of the Mar Menor.
âThe last rains have caused very serious damage.
It is essential that the law is complied with as soon as possible to mitigate future damage, âsaid Castejón.
In addition, the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Segura Hydrographic Confederation will be requested to improve the pumping of water from the Rambla del Albujón to avoid discharges to the Mar Menor, as contributions to the lagoon continue to be produced.
Castejón recalled that 4,500 tons of waste and 600 tons of sludge and mud have been removed from the riverside municipalities after the passage of DANA.
âThe replacement of the sand on the beaches and the channeling of rainwater is essential to avoid, as far as possible, that this situation is repeated when there are heavy episodes of rain and to recover the public use of bathing areas as soon as possible, âsaid the mayor.
Likewise, the mayor explained that it is necessary to improve the rainwater network of the entire coastline, for which specific financing lines are required.
