The Municipal Archaeological Museum, in collaboration with the SAIT (Technological Research Support Service) of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and with the authorization of the General Directorate of Cultural Property of the CARM, has carried out the scanning of some of the most relevant fossils of the Victoria Cave site.
Under the supervision of Miguel Martín Camino, head of Museums and Archeology of the City Council, Olaya García Nos, member of the scientific team of Cueva Victoria and responsible for the inventory of the fossil collection, as well as Dr. Dolores Ojados, Technical Director of SAIT, Twenty fossils of Cueva Victoria have been digitized, an important paleontological site located in the Llano del Beal, in Cartagena.
Among the scanned pieces are several African primate teeth, Theropithecus oswaldi, a human phalanx and seal remains.
The digitization works will allow some of these pieces, which due to their fragility are not currently exhibited in the Museum, can be reproduced in 3D with complete fidelity and displayed in the Museum itself, or even outside it.
