The vice mayor and councilor of the area of Social Services, Noelia Arroyo, has asked the Government Delegation for more information and greater collaboration with the City Council to respond to the kickback crisis and prevent the liberation of immigrants in the streets from consolidating Cartagena as a route of entry for the mafias.
Arroyo has warned that the release of immigrants in the streets of the city and the refusal of the Government delegation to immediately activate the Reception Protocol are sending a dangerous message to the mafias and can have social consequences and coexistence.
As he said, the information with which the technicians work demonstrates that the origin of the immigrants who continue to reach the coasts of Cartagena is the same as that of the Algerians who were released on the streets of the city last week.
In addition, there is an evolution in the profile of immigrants, with more women and children.
This circumstance shows that in Algeria this route begins to be seen as safe.
Arroyo recalled that Cartagena has a social network prepared to guarantee accommodation while a judge decides on patera arrivals, but that network has not been convened and news about immigrant release continues to arrive.
After a similar crisis in 2017, the Delegation acquired the commitment to involve the City Council in the management of this type of crisis and this was done before the wave of September last year.
The vice mayor has claimed “to the Government delegation a loyal relationship with the City Council and that all necessary information be provided to give the best response to this wave of patents.
Loyalty between institutions, especially in social and security matters, must be above any other consideration. "
Although the data of the City Council only come from technical contacts with social entities, according to municipal information, only the Red Cross is working with immigrants arriving this week and the two organizations specializing in the CEPAIM and ACCEM reception have not been referred to any person.
