The Local Police of Cartagena has conducted 323 alcohol and drug tests from September 20 to September 29, during the Campaign for monitoring and control of alcohol and drugs while driving, in the municipality of Cartagena.
A total of 20 drivers tested positive for alcohol and drugs, and 6 of them underwent police proceedings against an alleged crime against road safety.
In addition, 4 drivers tested positive for having used drugs, narcotics, psychotropics or the like.
This campaign has been carried out to ensure greater awareness of road safety during the celebration of the Carthaginian and Roman festivities, the Judicial Traffic Police section of Cartagena will perform various breathalyzer controls on the streets of the city.
The Road Safety Law is very strict regarding the use of narcotic drugs, so it prohibits driving with the presence of drugs in the body, although substances used under optional prescription and for therapeutic purposes are excluded.
The Criminal Code includes drivers who drive under the influence of alcoholic beverages, toxic drugs, narcotics or psychotropic substances, imprisonment for three to six months or a fine of six to twelve months or work for the benefit of the community of thirty-one to ninety days.
In any case, the deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for more than one and up to four years.
The Road Safety Law, the General Traffic Regulations and the penal code set the regulations applicable to the generic and specific maximum limits of alcohol allowed during driving, where the breach of these rules is classified as a serious or very serious infraction, withdrawal of the driving license and imprisonment where appropriate.
