The mayor asks the Ministry to activate the Emergency Protocol before the arrival of boats to Cartagena (28/09/2019)

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has convened this morning an emergency meeting with NGOs and entities that work in the municipality to address the humanitarian crisis before the arrival of boats to the coasts of Cartagena, where it has been revealed The need for the reception system to be activated by the Government of Spain.

“As I committed myself to the delegate of the Government, we have summoned all the agencies and all the municipal departments involved to have all the means and personnel prepared to activate the protocol as soon as they indicate it to us.

Cartagena has already demonstrated on many occasions that it is prepared to face these situations because we are a solidarity municipality and involved in the fight for human rights, â€said Ana Belén Castejón.

The mayor has been very proud of the network of entities that Cartagena has, which have offered human resources such as translators, mediators and informants, the places they currently have to house these people, as well as the supplies and products of Personal grooming necessary to serve them correctly.

This meeting was attended by the vice mayor, Noelia Arroyo, and the second Deputy Mayor, Manuel Padín;

the mayor responsible for the Department of Public Safety, Juan Pedro Torralba;

Infrastructure, María Casajús;

Sports, Diego Ortega;

and Social Services, Mercedes García;

as well as the general director of Social Services of the Autonomous Community, José López;

and representatives of the entities Red Cross, Accem, Cepaim, Murcia Acoge, Cáritas, the Hospitality Santa Teresa and AlRaso.

MUNICIPAL DEVICE, READY TO ACT

The session will enable the Sports Pavilion of the Cabezo Beaza Polygon in case additional spaces are needed.

This infrastructure will be equipped with the necessary material, as well as mattresses and blankets provided by the Red Cross, as it did in previous humanitarian crises.

The installation has already been supervised beforehand by National Police officials, who approved the reception of people.
