The hotels of the Region close the best month of August of the entire historical series
The Community celebrated today in Cartagena the World Tourism Day that coincided with the scale of the cruise ship 'Poetry' of the company MSC, with 2,550 passengers from Cádiz, who after visiting the center of Cartagena, will continue their destination to the Italian city of Genoa .
These cruise passengers are part of the nearly 200,000 who have arrived in the port city since January, 21 percent more than in the same period of 2018.
On the occasion of this celebration, the Ministry of Tourism, Youth and Sports, installed on the esplanade of the port a stand dedicated to virtual experiences, with two bicycle simulators with 3D glasses.
In this way, visitors could enjoy tours of different tourist destinations in the Region through virtual portraits.
A tourist information booth and a photocall with images of strategic enclaves of regional tourism were also arranged.
The Minister of Tourism, Youth and Sports, Cristina Sánchez, after visiting the stand, participated in the welcome ceremony, which, within the protocol of arrival of cruise passengers, was developed inside the ship of the company MSC.
Cristina Sánchez invited passengers "not to lose another second because in Cartagena there is much to discover", and asked them that "when they leave do not forget to tell everything they have lived.

The Minister stressed the good state of the sector in all modalities, “the Port of Cartagena has established itself as one of the most relevant in the Mediterranean and has a network of services that generates very important benefits for all sectors, thus contributing to seasonally adjusted significantly destiny ”.
He also reported on the latest hotel occupancy data that place the Region of Murcia as the community in which the volume of travelers in hotel establishments grew most in September, with an increase of 8.3 percent.
"The hotels in the Region of Murcia have closed the best month of August of the entire historical series and that is a cause for celebration for both companies and workers," he said.
Positive summer facts
Cristina Sánchez highlighted the increase in the volume of tourists in hotel establishments during the months of July and August, 8.1 percent more than in the same period of 2018, placing the Region of Murcia as the Spanish community that has increased the most number of visitors, reaching 284,993, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE).
In these last two months, 217,285 domestic travelers increased 8.8 percent, and 67,709 foreign travelers rose 6.2 percent.
Regarding the overnight stays, all these travelers generated 802,767, which represents an interannual increase of 3.2 percent and the highest data for the accumulated in the months of July and August.
