Torrential rains last week severely affected many sports facilities and at this time the Department of Sports of the City of Cartagena is working to restore all services as soon as possible.
The Department has prioritized efforts in the most used facilities.
Therefore, technicians continue to assess damages, accounting for more than 250,000 euros in damages.
Within this panorama, the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Sports, Noelia Arroyo, said on Wednesday that "thanks to the work of our public employees, the Wsell de Guimbarda Indoor Municipal Pool has recovered in record time and today resumed its activity ".
In addition, he said that "we have all the guarantees so that next Sunday's game can be held in the Cartagonova, despite the damage to the stadium."
Since 8 hours the indoor municipal pool has been put into operation to serve 2,000 users.
Since the episode of cold drop, explained the mayor of the Sports Area that has worked on "three daily shifts to dislodge water and mud, repair machinery and acquire what is necessary for its operation."
At the Cartagonova Municipal Stadium, Arroyo has pointed out that "the technicians and municipal brigades have recovered the operation of the electrical installation and the consequences of the flooding of the essential units to hold the game without any incident and in safety conditions have resulted" .
OTHER DAMAGES IN SPORTS FACILITIES
Noelia Arroyo has explained that the Pozo Estrecho pool has suffered severe flooding of the engine room, which has "emptied all the water and the engines and filters are already in the workshop for immediate repair."
In the pool of La Aljorra, the technicians of the Department of Sports are already finalizing the repairs, some breakdowns in the machinery and in the compensation vessel.
Arroyo has said that "the pool will open normally on the scheduled date, October 1".
The Sports Palace has also suffered leaks due to heavy rains.
The parquet sports courts "have not been damaged and the water was evacuated on time" due to the preventive measures provided by the Department of Sports and Infrastructure.
There have also been leaks on roofs of several facilities such as the Pavilions of El Algar, Santa Lucia, La Palma, Quarries, Jiménez de la Espada and the Central Pavilion.
These leaks have caused damage to the material.
Although the evaluation is still being done, the technicians' reports indicate that the football fields, for the most part, have resisted the storm.
According to Noelia Arroyo, "the biggest problems have occurred in the fields of La Palma, with water bagging and in those of La Aljorra and La Esperanza, where there are sunken areas."
In addition, the sports center of Los Urrutias is seriously damaged.
Other damages have occurred in the Table Tennis Room, where the elastic pavement has been lifted and in the Asomada Rugby Field, where there are problems with the machinery and the electrical supply.
Finally, the deputy mayor thanked the work of the technicians of the Department that are doing to restore normalcy as soon as possible and general less inconvenience to users of the facilities.
