The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has made today, September 17, a call to citizens asking that both those who live throughout the year and those who have their second residence in Los Nietos and Los Urrutias, open their homes so that possible damage caused by the cold drop, which occurred a few days ago, can be evaluated.
The mayor and the president of the Community, Fernando López Miras, together with the vice mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, the Councilor for Infrastructure, Services and Coast, María Casajús, the Councilor for Decentralization and Citizen Participation, Diego Ortega, the Councilor for Security Citizen and Public Road, Juan Pedro Torralba, and the Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García, have visited Los Nietos and Los Urrutias to learn about the damage caused by the temporary storm.
Ana Belén Castejón has affirmed that “although we are going to ask for help from the central government, the City Council will not appear to be unemployed but rather that urgent infrastructure works will be carried out in the riverside municipalities and we will meet with the primary sector, since that we are concerned about the damage in the Campo de Cartagena, especially in livestock farms. ”
In addition, it has indicated that within the declaration of catastrophic zone of the Region of Murcia they will request that it contain a plan that allows “rehabilitate rural roads”, since in the western area of ​​the municipality there are small isolated villages, where they live between 10 or 15 families.
During the visit, the president of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, said that thanks to the coordination of the regional government, the Municipal Government and the services of the EMU “this catastrophe has not become a tragedy and we have not had to regret victims ”.
For its part, the mayor of Cartagena has thanked the work of all the services involved such as the EMU, volunteers, Local Police, Fire, Civil Protection, Infrastructure and Social Services workers or cleaning services.
The lieutenant of the EMU, Alejandro Cruz, explained that "until they finish the cleaning work in the riverside municipalities they will not move to another area."
In total, there are a thousand military personnel working in the Region of Murcia, 24 hours a day, so that normality returns in the affected areas.
Nani Vergara, president of the Association of Neighbors of Los Nietos, has asked that residents who have homes in the town "open their homes because if they wait to open them in two or three months the streets and the beach will be filled with mud" .
In addition, he stressed that the owners of these homes can count on help when cleaning them, by requesting them at OMITA.
