The Cartagena Port Authority exhibits its facilities for the offshore industry in Aberdeen (06/09/2019)

Cartagena, September 6, 2019.- Those responsible for Exploitation, José Mª Gómez, and Business Development, Fernando Muñoz, of the Port Authority of Cartagena promote during these days the opportunities offered by the port for the offshore industry at the SPE fair Offshore Europe, held from September 3 to 6 in the Scottish city of Aberdeen.

SPE Offshore is one of the most important gas and oil production fairs in Europe.

This is one of the most important events in the sector, as shown in its data from its last edition, attended by more than 50,000 professional visitors from around the world and for this year more than 36,000 professionals are expected, hence it is considered as an essential appointment for professionals in the offshore technology sector for the oil and gas industry and extraction.

In this edition the event will bring together more than 700 exhibitors from 108 countries around the world.

A unique opportunity to know the latest trends and the most innovative technologies, as well as contact the technical experts and market leaders.

For the manager of Exploitation, José Mª Gómez "The port of Cartagena thus promotes its port offer with a terminal for project cargo and a dock for long-stay ships and oil rigs, and consolidates in this new line of business by holding meetings with the main companies in the sector ".

"Over the past few months, the Port of Cartagena has positioned itself as a safe port for offshore vessels and has been docked in extended stay, for conditioning and maintenance work, 5 ships of this type."

The Port of Cartagena continues to boost its activity in the offshore sector, a term that refers to the exploitation of oil wells from marine platforms, this being the fifth vessel of these characteristics that falls into the Cartagena docks for extended stays.

In December 2018 they docked the Transocean 706, semi-submersible drilling rig, and the Castorone, a pipe laying vessel, which remained in Cartagena until March.

Longer were the stays of the Drillship Atwood Advantage, with a length of 238 m, 42 m of beam and an operational capacity to work at depths of 3658 m, which was for three months, and the Saipem 700, the second largest semi-submersible crane ship of the world, which was almost 8 months.

The last to do so was the Stena Icemax platform in April of this year.

"This line of business is an important benefit for the port community and in general for the local industry as it provides continuous work to both port companies and auxiliary companies. Repair workshops, ship material supply company, transport companies they are the most demanded in this sector, "said Gomez.

SPE Offshore Europe

SPE Offshore Europe is celebrated from September 3 to 6 Aberdeen in its 23rd edition.

This year, the biennial event takes place under the theme "Advance towards excellence" and brings together experts from the oil and gas sector.

The congress focuses on the trends, patterns and predictions that will determine the market in the coming years.
