The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) today shows the rest of the polytechnics of Spain, in the framework of the UP4 meeting that has been held in Cartagena, its new employment portal, which groups job and internship offers for students and connects the companies with the research groups of the University and their potential to transfer knowledge to the productive sector.
The UP4 meeting has been represented by the rectors of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Alejandro Díaz;
from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Francisco Mora, from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Guillermo Cisneros and from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Francesc Torres.
Before the meeting, the rector of the UPCT recalled that this is the third meeting of the consortium of the four polytechnics that takes place in Cartagena and stressed that the training of engineers and technologists is "very important", so it is necessary to work in projects that improve their training, he said in reference to the job portal launched by the Polytechnic of Cartagena.
In turn, the rector of the Polytechnic University of Valencia has ensured that the alliance between the four universities "has been consolidated", pointing out that they have launched an Innovation Challenges program in which experts also participate and whose function consists in offering a better service and a better social function.
From the Polytechnic of Catalonia, Francesc Torres has stated that the polytechnics maintain a "very close" relationship with the companies, in fact, he has ensured that between 70 and 80% of the students end up doing internships in companies.
Finally, from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Guillermo Cisneros, has pointed out that the four universities have "many points in common" and that they have thanks to UP4 the opportunity to share "things from four different university systems; our function is to capture more resources to offer the highest quality, "he added.
UP4 MOBILITY CONSORTIUM
The four polytechnics will also study, at the initiative of the UPCT, the feasibility of creating a UP4 mobility consortium for the Erasmus + program.
“The objective is to combine strengths and improve the international training of our students, their adaptability and employability, as well as the training and updating of teachers, and the creation of new ties and alliances of interest,†explains Javier Garrigós, UP4 coordinator in the Polytechnic of Cartagena.
Among the topics of R & D & I that are going to be discussed is the new statute of research staff in training, the organization of a congress of Agronomic Engineering and an upcoming call of the UP4 Solutions program of technological challenges proposed by companies.
Financing plans, regulations for ongoing training and evaluation, promotion of STEAM vocations, particularly among young women, and other joint objectives of communication and institutional presence are also on the agenda of the multiple sectoral meetings held today by the four polytechnics in Cartagena.
TEACHER CREDITS
Emfoca is a development of the UPCT, adapted for use with mobile devices, which replaces the Icarus interuniversity portal and incorporates important developments such as simplification of procedures and online certification of practices, recognition of academic credits to teachers They supervise them and a chat that puts the tutors, the University and the companies, the students and the Employment Orientation and Information Center (COIE) in contact.
“The objective is that the student is not only seen in the company, but is supported by the previous training project and continuous contact with his academic tutor,†explains the Vice Chancellor for Innovation and Business, Alejandro Pérez, who also highlights that in the new portal you can carry out all the procedures associated with the “with zero paper†practices.
Facilitating access to the University, both for SMEs and large companies, to offer jobs and internships and to request technological and research services is another central purpose of Emfoca, where it can also be connected with almost half a hundred chairs of companies and institutions that the UPCT has.
"Bringing companies and researchers into contact is essential," said the Vice Chancellor.
The employment portal is the significant initiative that UPCT has chosen to exhibit at the UP4 meeting, the union of the four Spanish polytechnics, of which it is now the host.
But the idea of ​​the Polytechnic of Cartagena is to offer its development to all Latin American universities that are part of the Universia del Santander network.
Emfoca, which was launched at the beginning of last year, currently accounts for 856 practices, 1,256 managed offers and 465 agreements in force with companies.
