No representation of the Government Delegation has attended, despite the invitation made by the Mayor's Office.
Representatives of the neighborhood associations of Los Urrutias, Estrella de Mar, El Carmolí, Punta Brava, Bella Bay and Los Nietos have also attended.
The neighborhood assembly has been divided into two blocks.
On the one hand, all the problems related to the cleanliness of the waters, the sludge in the Mar Menor and the agricultural discharges that flow into the salty lagoon have been treated.
In this regard, after hearing in detail the numerous claims of the neighbors, the Municipal Government team has taken note and announced the measures that have been carried out from the local administration since June.
Thus it has been reported that from the Department of Infrastructure, Services and Coastline, maintenance and cleaning work on the beaches of the Cartagena coast have been intensified, increasing the presence in those areas of the Mar Menor most affected and that most require these jobs.
This calendar of actions began with an inspection of the municipal technicians from Isla Plana to La Manga with the objective of checking the status of the beaches and being able to schedule the actions to give an effective and efficient response to the residents of these coastal areas.
From the Department of Infrastructure and Coastline, a priority has been given to the beaches of the Coast, without leaving the rest of the municipality, in the words of Mayor Ana Belén Castejón.
“The services have been reorganized to guarantee the good state of cleanliness and conservation, in an era where the influx of neighbors and tourists who visit our beaches increases, with a total of 130 operators of the municipal brigades, the company TRGSA hired by the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia and the companies hired by the City Council â€said the first mayor of Cartagena.
The second block has dealt with the needs of neighbors in terms of infrastructure.
The intervenors have expressed their discomfort with the street lighting, the Post Office service in the area and with the potholes they claim has the Transfer Road.
Once the turn of interventions is over, the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has announced the reinforcement of personnel and media in the coastal areas of Cartagena.
In this way and according to the City Council, road cleaning services have been strengthened in sandy areas, promenades, streets and squares.
It has also invested in machinery and maintenance, with actions to improve accessibility, street furniture and lighting.
In addition, according to the mayor, the City of Cartagena has provided the beaches with more police presence on the promenades, with motorcycle patrols that run along the beaches of Los Nietos, Los Urrutias, Minor Islands, Mar de Cristal, Isla Plana, Playa Honda, La Azohía and La Manga to guarantee the safety of tourists and bathers.
It has also been recalled that the cleaning services of the beaches have so far extracted some 600 tons of seaweed in all the Cartagena towns of the Mar Menor.
In addition, pruning of palm trees has been carried out.
Castejón has indicated that the daily collection of Urban Solid Waste is carried out and that the selective collection service has been increased to guarantee the best service.
In addition, Castejón has announced that the last week of July and the first of August have been carried out, by Hidrogea, rainwater improvement actions, replacing and repairing collection gratings.
At the end of the assembly, the willingness of the administrations to go hand in hand with the neighbors in the recovery of the Mar Menor, which includes the elimination of discharges into the lagoon and the sludges that prevent bathing, was evident.
For this, a calendar of actions is already being worked on throughout the year, which together with the neighbors will be coordinated with the Autonomous Community and the Government of Spain, which will allow intervention in the beach areas, following the instructions and recommendations of the experts and scientists
The mayor has also announced that she will meet with the Government delegate in the Region of Murcia in September to discuss the problems to be addressed in the monitoring commission of the towns of the Mar Menor, as she said this morning in the extraordinary plenary held in the Town Hall on this same issue.
