The Department of Infrastructure of the City of Cartagena has launched a pilot project to improve energy efficiency and savings, with the installation of solar luminaires in the rural area of the municipality of Cartagena, within the Energy Efficiency Plan for the improvement of public lighting in the municipality of Cartagena.
The Councilor for Infrastructure, Mara Casajs has reported that “specifically, they are two smart street lamps located in the west.
They depend on the energy given by the sun, so they work with 100% autonomy, since they do not depend on the electricity grid. ”
"This allows a very important energy saving in those hamlets in the rural area where there is little population."
On the one hand, as explained by the councilor, it has a regulation system based on presence detection: when there are no users, the lamp is in a resting mode with a lower light level, but when it detects the presence of pedestrians or vehicles, the light level returns to the maximum.
On the other hand, it respects the environment and the environment in which it is located, since these are areas included in the Regional Park of the Sierra de la Muela-Cabo Tioso and Roldn.
This system allows to optimize the performance of the luminaire itself while minimizing the impact on the natural environment, especially in natural environments and of special protection.
In addition, this installation represents a saving in works to the municipal coffers, since no channels or connections to the energy supply are necessary, the councilor added, which advances in the improvement of public lighting, and in sustainability of the environment, with a very important energy saving and reduction of light pollution.
