As it has been a tradition, with the closing of the month of August, the traditional fishing day (Portusium Jábega) also reaches the fishing village of El Portús.
This year, it celebrates its X edition.
With the Marinera Day the origins of this town are commemorated, simulating the cove and gathering of the jábega, traditional fishing art in the Levantine coast, which is carried out by dragging the copo or net from the coast, previously set in the sea For a boat.
The participants, dressed in clothes of the time, will carry out the representation of what was, in their day, the way of life of a fishing village, since the fish was sighted from the shore and went to the site, until its auction.
In addition, the day will begin on Saturday, August 24, from 10:30 in the morning, with a cleaning of seabed, followed by an environmental awareness campaign, from 12:30, in which a cleaning will be carried out from the butts of the shore, in which visitors will be offered the option of exchanging a glass of cigarette butts for a glass of soda, with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of conserving a well-groomed beach without garbage.
This year, the event has the collaboration of the Soldecocos association, bringing attendees to the marine environment aboard the Ryujin sailboat, the Dragon of the Sea, from which the values ​​of the Sierra de La Muela Protected Natural Area, Cabo Tiñoso will be shown and Roldan, sailing along the coast and the Tiñoso Marine Reserve.
The rides will be made free of charge upon registration at the beach.
Departures will be held every 2.5 hours throughout the day.
At 7:30 p.m., a marine mass will take place in the Hermitage of El Portús, and then at 8:30 p.m., proceed to the representation of the cove and collection of the jábega.
After it, attendees can enjoy the traditional moraga of sardines, accompanied by live music, by the hand of 'The Untouchables of Eliot Ness'.
