The last winner of the Reef Award for the Best Instrumentalist of the International Festival of Cante de las Minas, Alejandro Solano, visited this morning, August 14, the Cartagena City Hall.

The 24-year-old marimbista and musician from Cartagena has been received on arrival by the Vice Mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, accompanied by the Councilor for the Area of ​​Culture, David Martínez, and the delegate mayor, Carlos Piñana.

Alejandro Solano received the award this Saturday, August 10 at the Cathedral of Cante (Old Public Market of La Unión).

He began his musical career at the Flamenco Art School of Cante de las Minas, a birthplace of flamenco musicians and singers.

The Councilor for Culture, Carlos Piñana, said that since childhood, Solano "already pointed ways, since he is a student and passionate about flamenco with an innate talent."

This young musician, who plays several flamenco compositions with tear with marimba, a percussion instrument similar to the xylophone, is the fourth Cartagena to obtain an award at the Unionense festival.

The Piñana saga won the first three awards: Antonio Piñana Segado, Curro Piñana Conesa and the councilman of the City Council of Cartagena, Carlos Piñana Conesa.

Alejandro Solano explained that he feels "very happy" to get the award because it has always been "a dream" to climb on the stage of Cante de las Minas.

The mayor delegate of Culture has stressed that this award is "a revulsion for his career", a career that will begin with several programs and projects to bring flamenco to all corners of the world.

He began his elementary grade musical studies at the Sauces Musical Association of Cartagena.

Classically trained, he has collaborated with different groups both classical and flamenco and jazz.

He has accompanied different artists in the International Festival of Cante de las Minas.

He stands out for being the percussionist of the dance company Cante de las Minas in his show 'Alma Minera'.

He has played in international concert tours with the flamenco singer Curro Piñana at the International Sufi Music Festival in Fez (Morocco, 2014), at Jerash Festival for Culture;

Arts (Jordan, 2015) and at the Festival des Andalousies Atlantiques (Morocco, 2018).

He is a percussionist of the dance company Ángel Manarre in his show 'Tierra, Flamenco y Voz'.
