Cartagena joins the commemoration of the bicentennial of El Prado being the scene of its outdoor exhibition (05/08/2019)

Las meninas, On May 3 in Madrid, The Garden of Earthly Delights, The naked pestle, The triumph of Bacchus, The Knight's hand on the chest or La Trinidad, besides being paintings of great masters of painting, are some of the most outstanding works that are part of the art gallery of the Prado National Museum.

Now the Museum, winner of the Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities 2019, celebrates its bicentennial this year with an itinerant exhibition that, after touring four continents, cities such as Panama, Guatemala, Havana, San Salvador, Manila, La Paz and several Spanish cities, disembark in Cartagena, specifically on the Paseo del Puerto.

The opening of the exhibition, which may be visited until the beginning of September, was attended by the Vice Mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, the Councilor for Culture, David Martínez, the Councilor for Culture, Carlos Piñana, the President on Monday of the Iberdrola Spain Foundation, Fernando García, regional delegate of Iberdrola, Patricio Valverde, the deputy director of Conservation of the National Museum of the Prado, Andrés Úbeda de los Cobos and the curator of the exhibition, Fernando Pérez Suescun.

The visitors were received before by the vice mayor at the City Hall.

During the inauguration, Noelia Arroyo said that the Museo Nacional del Prado "is one of the most important art galleries in the world and a benchmark in our country."

He also stressed that this outdoor exhibition joins the cultural and tourist offer offered by the 5 Cartagena museums.

For his part, the deputy director of Conservation of the National Museum of the Prado, Andrés Úbeda de los Cobos, pointed out that “El Prado is not an institution of Madrid, nor of a government, nor of professionals of Art History, it is a museum that It belongs to all Spaniards. â€

Before opening the exhibition, the mayor of Culture of the City of Cartagena, David Martínez, explained that thanks to this exhibition “Cartagena and tourists can learn a little more about the History of Spain, Europe and around the world western".

In addition, they will be able to discover details of the life of these painters who, with their brushstrokes, made these pictorial jewels possible.

The curator of the exhibition, Fernando Pérez Suescun, who has been showing the paintings to the attendees has explained that “in total there are 50 representative works of the Prado collections divided into four thematic groups: Spanish painting (23), Italian ( 13), the Flemish (11) and 3 works from other schools such as the French, the German or the Dutch â€.

In addition to the 50 works, there are another 6 metracylates where the history of the museum and the collections, the title of the exhibition and information about the different schools of painting are informed.

Finally, the president of the Iberdrola Spain Foundation, Fernando García, has remarked that this exhibition meets three objectives that are carried out by the institution such as "promoting culture, education and supporting the conservation and knowledge of cultural heritage" .

THE MEADOW FOR THE WORLD

'The Prado Museum in the streets' is an itinerant educational exhibition organized by the Prado National Museum with the collaboration of the Cartagena City Council and the Iberdrola Foundation.

It basically consists of a selection of photographs of the main works of the Prado - reproduced on a 1/1 scale - that will be exhibited in important squares and pedestrian streets of the cities that will host the exhibition.

Its main objective is to offer information about the museum and its rich collections in an educational and attractive way.

This project was launched in 2011 through an agreement signed between the Prado Museum and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), with the collaboration of the cultural centers of the capitals interested in receiving the exhibition.

After a pilot experience in Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic, from 2015 to 2017 the exhibition could be seen in various Latin American capitals - Tegucigalpa (Honduras), Guatemala (Guatemala), San Salvador (El Salvador), Managua (Nicaragua), Panama (Panama), San José (Costa Rica), Havana (Cuba), La Paz (Bolivia), Lima (Peru) and Asunción (Paraguay) - as well as in Equatorial Guinea - Bata and Malabo - and in the Philippines - Manila.
