Start the second shift of the work camp in Victoria Cave (29/07/2019)

The second shift of the Victoria Cave Work Camp begins on Monday, July 29, the work with the incorporation of new students and specialists, who will be until the end of said work camp, on August 11.

This project is coordinated by the Cidaris Foundation and has the collaboration of the City Council of Cartagena, the General Directorate of Cultural Property of the Region of Murcia, the Foundation itself.

Visits to the Archaeological Museum

As part of their training, participants of the Victoria Cave Work Camp have had the opportunity to visit the Municipal Archaeological Museum of 'Enrique Escudero de Castro', which houses among their funds much of the excavated fossils of the cave's paleontological site , to know these collections and collaborate in their inventory.

In addition, the museum currently has a small display case that informs the visitor about the fauna that inhabited the site approximately 1 million years ago and where you can see among others, the original phalanx of a hominid recovered at the site.

Collaboration of the Center for Nature and Sea Studies

Cavers of the Center for Studies of Nature and the Sea (CENM) collaborate with the work area of ​​Victoria Cave, guiding the participants inside their galleries to know the origin of the cavity and its different morphologies.

Also thanks to the collaboration of CENM, smart tags with NFC technology have been launched for the first time in the field, which will provide relevant information to researchers and visitors at the site.
