Urban art has always been present in the Sea of Music but in this edition it has a very important presence, both for the quality of the artists and for the content of the works.
Among all of them there is one with a very special meaning for the festival team, a large format mural featuring Paco Martín, director of La Mar de Musicas and many other cultural events that have made history so much in Cartagena as in the region.
From Wednesday 24 to Sunday 28 July, Portuguese graffiti artists Frederico Draw and Rodrigo Contra are working on this site-specific work created especially for Cartagena and that will immortalize Paco in the city he loved so much and for which he fought so much.
The project, carried out with the support of the Graffiti and Strett Art Service of the Cartagena City Council, is led by Frederico Draw, a master's degree in architecture and a member of the RUA collective.
Draw is internationally known for having the ability to use spray cans as if they were pencils and for painting faces as anonymous portraits on a large scale.
His unique and recognizable style is characterized by using the unfinished technique to add lyricism to the protagonists of the murals.
With this technique it is able to convert any bland and rough-looking wall into an immense blackboard where the chalk is replaced by the spray.
The theatrical effect of his countenance arises from the extreme analysis that the author makes of the subjects, which contrasts with the rudeness of the facades where they are painted.
Frederico Draw is, besides being a graffiti artist, artistic director of PUTRICA (Temporary Urban Proposals for Cultural and Artistic Rehabilitation and Intervention), a project that uses street art to convert empty urban spaces into places with an artistic and cultural value.
These days the citizens of Cartagena have the opportunity to contemplate and follow the process of creating these artists and see how a tribute to the great impoulsor of the city's culture materializes.
