Time seems to stop as you enter the paleontological site of Victoria Cave.
This is what the 5 students of Biology and Geology see that since July 15 are digging in Victoria Cave and that this Saturday, July 27, they conclude their training.
During the two weeks of intervention, the work has been focused on three areas, which has allowed on the one hand to favor the conservation of some of the fossils found in the cave and on the other the identification of new specimens.
In the sieving works numerous fossils of small vertebrates have been recovered.
One of the intervened blocks has allowed to identify long bones and vertebrae of different organisms, of great interest for their anatomical connection, together with different molars and other fragmented bones that will offer new scientific information and a joint attraction for the visitor in the future.
However, the site has been a training opportunity for young students and a great impetus to the future management of the site, making it possible to put musealizable elements in the cave itself as well as promoting conservation work.
At the same time as the cave works, daily visits have been made that have allowed the insitu works of the researchers to be known.
The new intelligent digital information system has also been implemented through NFC cards, a pioneer in deposits, which will replace the precarious notes posted on the deposits and increase information for researchers.
Researchers have used state-of-the-art tools that are allowing the recovery of insitu bone materials that until now were difficult to perform.
Summer cinema and surveys have been carried out in the towns of Llano, El Beal and El Estrecho to know the degree of knowledge of the cave and the opinion on it.
On Monday, the 29th, the second shift of the Victoria Cave Work Camp begins.
The work camp is coordinated by the Cidaris Foundation and is funded by the General Directorate of Cultural Property of the Region of Murcia, the City Council of Cartagena and the Cidaris Foundation itself.
