The Cartagena City Council is preparing a crash plan to improve cleaning, infrastructure and municipal services in the towns of the Mar Menor, as explained this morning by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, to the residents of Los Urrutias who have attended the Municipal Plenary.
A neighborhood representative, Ana Pineda, has had the opportunity to present the neighborhood claims to the municipal groups before the plenary session began and has demanded concrete and firm actions.
The municipal government is aware of the situation experienced by the residents of Los Urrutias.
“We know that this is one of the villages most affected by the problems of the Mar Menor and that is why we have done everything in our power so that the neighbors have been able to intervene and explain their proposals, just as they had requested.
This week we have already launched the Technical Commission of the Mar Menor, in which all councilors and heads of service of the areas involved to specify actions, deadlines and budgets, ”said the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón.
The mayor has pledged to convene an extraordinary plenary during the month of August to account for the management in the Mar Menor, as requested by the neighbors.
“The neighbors do not want us to tell them promises, they want facts, and a responsible Government will go there to show their face to explain the actions planned by the City of Cartagena on a budget and in a serious and rigorous way.
The mayor affirms that the planned schedule will include the Autonomous Community and the Government of Spain and that both she and the vice mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, are in contact "with the General State Administration and the Regional" to coordinate the actions.
For its part, the deputy mayor of Cartagena Noelia Arroyo understands the "indignation and despair" of the inhabitants of Los Urrutias for "the neglect that has been dragged by different officials.
What we have done has been to put on our homework, contemplate the challenges and make a road map to be able to schedule all the actions, which is what the neighbors ask of us ”.
Noelia Arroyo also pointed out that “the neighbors are tired of sharing the blame between the different administrations.
What they want is for us to share work. ”
In the opinion of the Municipal Government, "two things have been missing at this time: collaboration between administrations and acting according to the recommendations of experts and scientists," said Arroyo.
