Cartagena Negra 2019. New voices and new formats (24/07/2019)

New voices and new formats, these could be the two lines that will characterize the fifth edition of the Black, Police and Mystery Cartagena Negra conference, which will be held between September 3 and 7.

New voices such as those of the authors who opt for the I Black Icue Award, which rewards emerging authors in the genre, either for premiering in it or for having recently become known in it.

This award is a novelty at the black novel festivals, although there is one that awards a prize to a first novel, Cartagena is distinguished for another year by paying special attention to voices unknown to the public, but full of talent.

And if the prize for the debutants is given on the first day, just before the official opening with the Canarian author Alexis Ravelo, on the closing day the III Prize of Cartagena Negra Novel will be delivered, an award that in a short time has acquired a special relevance in the national black scene, and that this year has finalists such as Francisco Bescós, Carmen Mola, Pedro Martí, Carlos Bassas, Benito Olmo and Marta Robles.

Precisely Marta Robles will be one of the authors who participates in the meetings with author, in addition to Félix J. Palma, meetings that are held with the reading clubs of the Network of Municipal Libraries of Cartagena, which collaborates one more year in a manner fundamental in the contest, by the hand of Carmen Rodal.

You can also enjoy the presentations of new novels by authors such as Claudio Cerdán and Mónica Rouanet.

As for the new formats, we will talk about applications that allow you to read black novels on mobile devices, such as the Black and Noir collection, which include names such as Graziella Moreno or David Llorente, and publications for children, which they deal with such sensitive issues as harassment, and which Sergeant Emilia, an agent of law enforcement who writes, will talk about.

The differences between reality and fiction, the relationship between cinema and literature, the role of literary blogs in the black genre, the work of the curators of other festivals, which combine their facet of organizers with that of writers, will be other topics to be treated in a conference that will end with a round table aimed at analyzing the role that LGTBI protagonists are playing lately in black novels, appearing in them with the same naturalness with which they should be shown in any civilized society.

The chosen scenario, one more year, is the El Batel Auditorium, which has gradually become the official headquarters of the conference, also contributing to affirm this festival as one of the most prestigious in Spain.

And the sessions each afternoon will end, as always, in Mister Witt Café, a place that has become emblematic for genre fans in the city.

Like other years, the conference has other literary and cultural events, the Short Contest, coordinated by the director Ana Ballabriga, and that this year has registered a record participation, with almost 100 pieces, two micro-story contests, one organized by the blog The Fifth Book, and another one of texts read live, and a theatrical performance that deals with Samsa, the character of Franz Kafka.

One more year, Cartagena Negra is concerned with the dissemination of the black genre in all its cultural aspects, and tries to bring the Cartagena reader to the most prominent authors of the genre, with figures, in addition to those already mentioned, of the stature of Manuel Marlasca , Blas Ruiz Grau, Susana Hernández, Antonio Mercero or Susana Rodríguez Lezaun, among others.

A more than attractive program that continues to place Cartagena Negra in the forefront of Spanish literature and which the public can enjoy widely.
