The Collective Association GALACTYCO, celebrates that finally, the administration takes into account the initiative to make a monument to the victims of AIDS, a disease that caused many deaths during the 80s and 90s, and the people affected by the HIV in Cartagena.
While it is true that it is not an exclusive disease of the LGTBI Collective, from GALACTYCO, we have always worked with specific organizations in the prevention of HIV / AIDS, such as the Anti-AIDS Committee (CASMU).
Alberto Alba, president of GALACTYCO remembers that the CASMU had to close, after more than 20 years working in our city, in the year 2012, due to the elimination of the aid that it received from the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia.
Do not forget that in the last year of activity of the CASMU, this committee, attended 5000 people in the city of Cartagena and 6000 in the city of Murcia.
After the disappearance of the CASMU, Collective GALACTYCO has continued to carry out works and campaigns to prevent STIs and HIV, both of its own creation, and the one that was carried out a few years ago during the Carthaginian and Roman festivities, "Always at hand in Carthaginians and Romanos ", in which they distributed more than 8,000 condoms, or with the FELGTB of which they are members since the same year of its creation, 2008, as" Put a medal against HIV ", or" Before HIV I'm sure " , among other.
The Cartagena Association has also championed the fight against the closure of the Unit for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of STIs and HIV in Cartagena, which is dependent on the Ministry of Health of CARM and which has been dismantled to reduce attention to a single day. a week.
A unit that has operated for almost 30 years and has been a regional reference for its quality and professionalism.
José María García, of GALACTYCO, affirms that from his association they celebrate the creation of a new Association, Vihsibles, that has been created in the Region of Murcia and that attends and accompanies people with HIV.
According to García, we are coordinating activities and campaigns to carry out together with them.
The first thing we have done together both associations has been the request to the City Council, the tribute, in the form of a monument to the victims of AIDS and people affected by HIV in our city, says Garcia.
In the words of the president of GALACTYCO, Alberto Alba, "the scarce campaigns carried out by the regional and local governments in matters of prevention and accompaniment after the diagnosis means that we are the associations that have to cover that space, independently that later they join them. the administrations ".
From GALACTYCO remember that HIV has increased significantly in the Region in recent years.
