The City of Cartagena prepares renovation works in the CATAD to improve the habitability of the facilities and will take its management to tender through a list of conditions after collecting the concerns of the animal protection societies, as announced by the Councilor for Health of the City of Cartagena, Manuel Padín, who on Friday visited the Home and Domestic Animal Treatment Center in La Asomada, accompanied by area technicians and facilities manager, David Cervantes.
During the visit, the mayor has been able to check the status of the new cheniles built in the center and that will be reformed as soon as the judge lifted the prohibition to carry out works established as a precautionary measure in an open procedure following a complaint.
The new works, which are part of a project already approved and tendered, would include the cutting of the chenille fencing to also adapt the access to people with reduced mobility, covering the roof to prevent the entry of water and pipes to prevent flooding, in other aspects.
"It is a situation in which the injured are the animals and we can not consent, so we hope that the court will lift these precautionary measures to start working for the good of the animals," said the mayor.
In addition, the councilman of Health has announced the determination of the local government not to extend the current concession on the CATAD and the implementation of a new tender.
In this sense, Padin has spent two weeks meeting with the animal protection of the municipality to know their concerns and to prepare a list of conditions that suits the real situation and pursue animal welfare.
"Issues such as an emergency service or a continual clash plan for sterilization are fundamental aspects that the new tender will contemplate," said the mayor.
