MC Cartagena will propose, during the next municipal plenary session, that the remunicipalization of the Center for the Reception and Treatment of Domestic Animals (CATAD) be promoted, in order for the City Council to directly manage it, creating a program for the sterilization and vaccination of the animals collected of the street and promoting adoption policies.

The councilor of the Cartagena training, Isabel Garcia, said that "because the contract with the company that manages the CATAD is nearing completion, we are at a suitable time to proceed with the remunicipalization of its management and thus , to end years of constant denunciations and complaints of both citizens and municipal groups. "

"Thanks to the remunicipalization we will be able to redirect the municipal policies related to companion animals, guaranteeing a 24-hour service, with municipal veterinarians, zero sacrifice, as well as promoting active adoption policies", explained García, who indicated that "it would be enough to create the employment exchanges necessary to cover the places on a provisional basis until the appropriate competitions can be obtained ".

Finally, the mayor has shown how it has spread in society "awareness against animal neglect and abuse, as well as the need to welcome and adopt pets, as more than 60% of Spaniards live with a pet, which gives us an idea of ​​the importance with which these issues should be addressed ", issue that also included the MC Government Program that, among other initiatives aimed at animal welfare, also included the remunicipalisation of the CATAD.

Faced with the risk that the Municipal Government is not able to perform all the necessary procedures for the remunicipalization of CATAD before the expiration of four years of the term of the contract and, in order to prevent the current company from continuing to exercise the management through the extension for two more years allowed by the current contract, will be demanded that a new tender be held, the duration of which is the minimum necessary time, so that the remunicipalization can be carried out as soon as possible.
