In this way, the Cartagena cemetery is added to the increasingly widespread 'cemetery tourism', a typology that is in full swing throughout the country.
Mysterious Routes®, organizer of the event, proposes a tour in which the participants will be at night among tombs and angelic sculptures, allowing themselves to be carried away by the magic of numerous stories that deserve to be rescued from oblivion.
The objective is that attendees discover with different eyes one of the best witnesses of the history of the port city, understand the strange symbols inscribed in several of its pantheons and, incidentally, listen to some other disturbing story.
All this with the utmost respect and sensitivity on the part of some guides with extensive experience in this type of activities.
All seats for the premiere next Friday are sold out, but luckily, the visits will be repeated on a monthly basis.
It should be remembered that Mysterious Routes® is the first network of mystery routes in Spain.
This pioneering project was born in 2013 in Andalusia, and today, is widely located in the Community of Madrid, Valencia, Canary Islands, Cantabria and Catalonia, apart from the Region of Murcia.
Its goal is to reveal the most surprising side of each city to its own neighbors, and to that end, has brought together leading national experts in the field.
In Cartagena, the chosen professionals have been Antonio Florit, official guide of the Region of Murcia expert in ancient civilizations, and writer and archaeologist Santiago García, author of several books.
In addition, Mysterious Routes® is a specialist in highlighting other artistic cemeteries, having previously organized similar nocturnal visits to the Monturque cemetery in Cordoba, which has some Roman cisterns declared of Cultural Interest, and the Cementerio del Inglés Cemetery, one of the most unique of the peninsula.
