The City of Cartagena has activated level 1 (preventive) of the "Framework protocol for municipal action in environmental episodes of pollution of NO2 and PM10" by exceeding the daily limit value of PM10 particles in La Aljorra during the day of Monday, July 15, as reported by the General Directorate of Environment and Mar Menor.
Specifically, the average daily concentration of PM10 particles recorded in La Aljorra during day 15/07/2019 was 54 μg / m3, compared to 50 μg / m3 which is established as a daily limit value that can not be exceeded by more than of 35 occasions per year, in RD 102/2011 relating to the improvement of air quality.
The levels of contamination by PM10 particles registered in the rest of the control stations of the municipality of Cartagena have not exceeded the limit values ​​of reference.
As reported by the General Directorate of Environment and Mar Menor, this overcoming coincides with the prediction of intrusion of African air masses for July 15, 2019. It also indicates that, according to the report of prediction of intrusion of African air masses on Spain for the day 16/07/2019, it is expected that mineral dust contributions in the range of 20-40 μg / m3 in areas of the center and mainland SE can continue to be recorded throughout the day.
The recommended measures, during the period that the preventive level remains active, are the following:
1. Preferentially use public transport, shared use of private vehicles and avoid as far as possible the displacements in private vehicles when it is not strictly necessary, especially in the displacements within the towns.
2. Do not burn stubble or agricultural margins.
3. Avoid carrying out earth movements, cultivation areas and other practices that contribute to the generation of dust clouds while the episode persists.
4. Try to avoid exposure to the ambient air of especially sensitive people, such as children, the elderly and the sick.
