The opening of the four-star hotel complex, managed by the British chain Neilson, counted on Monday, July 15, with the assistance of the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, the deputy mayor, Noelia Arroyo, the second deputy mayor, Manuel Padín , accompanied by the Councilor for Tourism, Cristina Perez, the councilor of the area of ​​Public Safety, Public Road and Celebrations, Juan Pedro Torralba, the mayor of the municipal corporation Pilar García, the acting tourism counselor, Míriam Guardiola, the president of the Fuertes Group, Tomás Fuertes and the manager of Profusa, Laura Fuertes, among others.
The establishment, located in front of the Mar Menor, on the street Rio de Avilés, has an area of ​​40,000 square meters, which has 150 rooms, which will accommodate 400 tourists interested in water sports.
The establishment has had an investment of some 15 million euros and will generate 100 jobs directly.
The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has indicated that this hotel will help "deseasonalize tourism in the Mar Menor area".
In addition, he has affirmed that this project serves so that all the administrations cooperate to improve this salty lagoon, converting it into "the paradise that is".
For its part, the Minister of Tourism acting, Míriam Guardiola, stressed that the Region of Murcia can offer "not only sun and beach tourism, but also, an active, sporty and sustainable tourism with the Mar Menor and this hotel It is a clear example. "
At the moment, it is expected that 6,600 tourists will pass through the complex throughout this year.
The hotel chain Neilson has facilities in six other European countries such as France, Croatia, Italy, Austria, Andorra or Greece, promoting mountain tourism or related to water sports.
Hotel manager Perla de Levante, Juan Ramón López, explained that his hotel differs from the rest because it offers mainly nautical activities such as "sailing, kite surfing, paddle surfing".
In addition, tourists can play tennis on their tracks, attend bike and fitness classes with monitors and the little ones can learn to navigate the Mar Menor.
Finally, the manager Profusa, Laura Fuertes, said that the developer is committed to "the generation of employment in coastal areas", hence the choice to locate this new hotel complex in Los Urrutias.
