Municipal officials and members of the new Board of Directors of the Food Bank of Cartagena have held a meeting on Friday morning, July 12, to move forward with the creation of the new project in order for this institution to reopen in Cartagena and can distribute food from the EAGGF, as reported Noelia Arroyo, deputy mayor and councilor of the area of ​​Social Services and Sports.
Arroyo recalled the "total support" of the city council to the board, both in the search for a seat, as in technical advice and mediation before other institutions.
The common goal is to develop a good project so that the Federation of Food Banks of Spain (FESBAL) approves the incorporation of the Cartagena to the next call for food distribution, which will be approved in January 2020.
At the meeting, which was attended by the Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes Garcia, have reviewed the steps that have already made the City and the current status of the project.
The person in charge of the program in the government delegation explained that the existence of another food bank in the region has made it possible to guarantee that the entities have at all times had the same volume of food as with the Cartagena bank. way that all users of these services in the area have continued to receive these benefits.
Arroyo stressed the interest of the new management to develop a solid project and announced that the collaboration will be permanent, with institutional arrangements and technical meetings, the first of which will occur next week.
On the other hand, Mercedes García has indicated that "the municipal government has shown its total willingness and collaboration to get the Food Bank reopened in Cartagena.
In fact, before his transfer was effective we already met with them to try to stop him, but it was not possible.
Luckily, after the meeting we had this morning with the Regional Manager of the Food Program, our feeling has been very positive.
As the administration closest to the citizen and aware of the need that exists in our municipality, we have reached out to the people in charge of the Food Bank and know that, despite not being our competence, they can count on us ".
The mayor recalled that, in any case, while not reopen the Food Bank in Cartagena, the supply of food to the most vulnerable families of Cartagena is covered through the service provided by social entities.
