A look at the past of the 25 editions of La Mar de Músicas in'A festival, a city' (11/07/2019)

This year, La Mar de Músicas celebrates twenty-five editions with a look at the past through an exhibition that collects its images thanks to the work of the two official photographers of the festival Pablo Sánchez del Valle and the late Carlos Gallego.

They have been in charge of reflecting the spirit and the great moments of this already consolidated great musical event in Cartagena since its beginnings in 1995.

A total of 145 images under the name 'A festival, a city' are those that make up the exhibition inaugurated this Thursday, July 11, in the rooms Tomás Rico and Víctor Beltrí of the Palace Hall by the councilor of the Culture Area, David Martinez, accompanied by the delegated councilor, Carlos Piñana, under the coordination of photographer Pablo Sánchez, who has explained the composition of the rooms.

This show hosts images of the true protagonists of the festival: its artists and musicians, the different stages, the public delivered and the atmosphere of the city on the nights of each month of July, collecting "not only moments, but feelings and experiences", added David Martinez.

It also serves as a tribute, not only to the first of these photographers who was there until 2002, but also to one of the festival's performers as was Francisco Martín, who also died this year.

Its main objective is "to remember this quarter of a century in which the festival has garnered important recognitions and awards, and that reflects the soul and hearts", continued Carlos Piñana about this event known both nationally and internationally.

Through the Torres Park, with views of the sea, El Batel, the Old Cathedral or the squares of San Francisco or the City Hall have passed great artists such as Carlinhos Brown, Chucho Valdés, Gilberto Gil, Bonavista Social Club, Fito Páez, Diego El Cigala, Calle 13, Amaral or Rosalía.

All of them reflected in their images, as well as the evolution of many in their passage through several editions.

Its organizer, photographer Pablo Sánchez, remembered the words of Francisco Martín in the exhibition held for the 20th anniversary as "the true story of La Mar de Músicas".

The exhibition is divided into years and is composed of the photographs of the last five editions in the first room, while the following shows the ones made by Carlos Gallego from the beginning of the festival until 2002 and those that Pablo Sánchez del Valle made from 2003 until the 2018 edition.

To complete this selection, the photographs of this edition of 2019 will be added after its completion and will be exhibited along with the others until September 30.
