Cinema and literature have contributed since its inception to give greater visibility to the profession of the archaeologist and the great archaeological discoveries with movies of adventurers and treasure hunters who are struggling to gain a hidden treasure, as is the case of the most famous at throughout the history of cinema, Indiana Jones.
That is why the Municipal Archaeological Museum of Cartagena sets up a Film Cycle in the Garden of the Museum that, under the name 'Archaeologists or treasure hunters?', Will screen films from different periods that show how it sees cinema these professionals.
It was this Wednesday, July 10, when the delegated councilor of the Culture Department, Carlos Piñana, presented at the Town Hall the programming of the cycle with screenings every Thursday in July, August and September at 9:45 p.m. along with the general director of Historical Heritage and Archeology of the Municipal Archaeological Museum, María Luisa Saura, and the head of Museums and Archeology, Miguel Marín.
"The archaeological discoveries awaken the curiosity and the admiration of the people before the signs that reveal secrets of ancient civilizations", comments the councilman, "moments that the cinema has recreated with the feats of archaeologists".
Although in real life their work is very different from that which has been related to riches and adventures, since they spend hours digging up objects to catalog and deposit in museums.
It will be this Thursday, July 11, when the first of these films is screened, Altamira, which tells the story based on the real facts of the discovery of these caves, followed by the first of the Indiana Jones saga and The mines of King Solomon of 1950.
In August, also every Thursday, except the 15th, which will be held on Wednesday, will be screened, The mummy of 1999, Murder in Mesopotamia, The body, The secret of the Incas of 1954 and the mask of Fu- Manchú de 1932. The cycle will close in September with the feature films The Search (2004) and The Purple Rose of Cairo.
