La Mar de Músicas will hold its fourth "Mar de Barrios" in the Barrio de la Concepción (10/07/2019)

Like every year since 2016, La Mar de Músicas takes culture and rhythm beyond the limits of downtown Cartagena.

Since the 'Mar de Barrios' section was launched, the festival is connected and enriched by the cultural diversity of the city's neighborhoods.

An extensive cultural program, designed for all the neighbors and composed of workshops, games, dances, DJ sessions, children's concerts and parades, will fill the neighborhood for a day having as its epicenter this year the Polideportivo del Barrio de la Concepción.

Thanks to the collaboration of the councils of Culture, Equality and Social Services of the City of Cartagena, as well as the different associations, groups and coordinators, La Mar de Barrios consolidates its presence within the festival's program.

From La Mar de Músicas has always opted for an intercultural and plural Cartagena that defends different cultures and ways of living.

For four years and with the support of the Department of Culture has developed La Mar de Barrios to promote the culture of proximity in the city and that neighbors who have not yet attended the festival, know him, feel hers, and participate in the activities that are proposed.

With this initiative it is intended that the most important festival in the city, and that this year celebrates its 25th edition, not only remain in its traditional stages.

In addition to bringing the best music to the port city, each edition has a different neighborhood or deputation.

So far the neighborhoods of José María de la Puerta, Santa Lucia and the Mediterranean Urbanization have participated, and this list is joined by the Concepción neighborhood where free activities will be developed for all the public in which their neighborhood entities have once again become involved. associative

This year they highlight the traditional parade, performed by the D'Akokan band, a family show with the original sounds of El Loren, sessions of mestizo music with Sedo DJ and a concert with rhythms of rumba, son and national pop of the hand of Pipo and the Opposite Cathet.

PROGRAMMING

The day will begin at 7:30 p.m. with the activities organized by the social and immigrant groups, the coordinator of neighborhoods and associations of La Concepción.

Starting at 8:30 pm, the music of the original children's percussion show by Lorenzo Mena will be played, better known as El Loren with the use of unique recycled instruments, devised and created by hand with PVC tubes, paint cubes, pans, bicycle bells, oven trays and even ashtrays.

Styles such as Techno, Electro, Dub, Hip-Hop or Funk merge into the music of Lorenzo Mena, a multidisciplinary artist who dominates percussion, guitar and composition and who, after going through hundreds of street festivals, has made the leap to stages around the world and to act in events of all kinds.

At 9:15 pm the party will continue with the parade of D'Akokán, a band that brings a wide repertoire of popular music very danceable and with a varied and fun direct.

The salsa, the son, the timba, the mambo or the cha cha chá will fill the streets of the neighborhood with sounds inspired by great Cuban and Latin composers and performers such as Mario Bauzá, Machito, Benny Moré, Celia Cruz, Omara Portuondo, Juan by Marcos & Afro-Cuban All Stars and more contemporary composers such as Giraldo Piloto & Klimax, Alexander Abreu or Joaquín Betancourt.

The repertoire of Pipo and the Opposite Cateto can be enjoyed from 22: 15h on the stage of La Mar de Barrios with a danceable and festive music whose lyrics convey a song of diversity and a current poetry that calls "here and to now. "

With a very intense staging, the central axis of his performance will be songs from different styles accompanied by versions of rumba classics and Latin music.

To finish dancing, Sedo DJ has prepared a session of mestizo music that will last until midnight and will close the day.

Sedo DJ is the alter ego of Jose Domingo Terrada, a lover of music, who makes his sessions an experience in which blows and sound blows happen, one after the other telling a powerful story.

Cumbia, reggae, flamenco, miscegenation and even electronics make up a mixed musical shaker from the Mar Menor.
